Live Theatre Learning at its Finest

Orewa College senior drama students took their learning to the next level with a special theatre trip to Auckland Theatre Company’s production of Murder on the Orient Express.

On Thursday, 1 May 2025, NCEA Level 1–3 drama students travelled to the ASB Waterfront Theatre to experience a professional performance based on Agatha Christie’s famous mystery.

This opportunity connected classroom learning with real-world practice, offering students:
- A live example of performance techniques and design elements studied in class
- Exposure to professional-level acting, staging, and direction
- Inspiration for their own performances and assessments
- Material that may be referenced in their end-of-year drama exams

“It's an opportunity for students to connect the skills and knowledge from class and see it put into practice in a professional setting. They may also use this opportunity as a basis for the end of year drama exams,” said Geoffrey Heaney, Drama teacher.

This trip is part of Orewa College’s commitment to rich arts education and connecting ākonga with meaningful learning experiences outside the classroom.
