Orewa College’s annual Mud Run transforms cross country into an estuary adventure. Students and staff run, walk, and slide their way through mud and water in this fun house competition.
House Competition Gets Muddy
Orewa College’s annual Mud Run is an evolution of the cross country event, it’s an estuary-based, under-1km adventure run that brings together students and staff for an unforgettable start to Term 2.
Held at mid-tide to take full advantage of the environment around the school, this year’s course had runners dodging the occasional oyster, diving into mud, and sprinting through water troughs outside the college grounds.
What makes it special?
- First inter-house event of Term 2
- Less than 1 kilometre, but packed with fun
- Uses the natural estuary beside the college
- Options to walk, jog or run competitively
- Many chose to get muddy and dive in!
“Good vibes all around. Made all the more enjoyable for the mud,” said House Leader Joel Dickinson.
Staff participation was strong, too — with 2 house points earned for every teacher brave enough to take part.
Mud Run Results:
1st – Batten
2nd – Nepia & Sheppard (tied)
4th – Blake
5th – McLaren
Overall House Points:
1st – Batten (32)
2nd – Sheppard (31)
3rd – McLaren (30)
4th – Nepia (26)
5th – Blake (25)
With good vibes and great spirit, the Mud Run is more than just a race; It’s a muddy, energising celebration of community, house pride, and adventure.
