Orewa College's Orienteering team has made an exceptional start to 2025, with more students competing and succeeding than ever before. A record-breaking 93 students have participated across multiple regional events, proudly representing our kura in both individual and team competitions. Led by Tristan Williams and Julie Gibson, the team has shown incredible depth, resilience, and determination.

Sprint Series Standouts
- Over five weeks of sprint racing, Orewa College students consistently performed at the top:
- Harper Tipene – 1st in Year 10/11 Girls (Weeks 1 & 3)
- Lacey Gornall – 1st and 2nd place finishes in Year 8 Girls across several weeks
- Daniel Van Zyl & Matt Dodds – Repeated podiums in Year 7 Boys
- Julian Roberts – Top 3 in Year 9 Boys
- Eva Wilkins, Anisa Gilbert, Felix Lynn – All placed consistently in the top 3

Auckland Interzone Finals Results
An extraordinary finish saw Lacey Gornall (Year 8 Girls) place 2nd overall, affirming her status as one of the top young orienteers in the region.
Zone Day Championship Results
- Year 7 Boys Team – 1st Place
- Year 8 Boys Team – 1st Place
- Year 8 Girls Team – 2nd Place
All three teams qualified for the Auckland Interzone Finals.
Individual Champions Included:
Farrah Sweeney, Eva Wilkins, Daniel Van Zyl, Lacey Gornall, Harlem Hope-Jensen, Hunter Tipene, Noah Rice, and more — all earning 1st place on the course.
North Island Orienteering Championships:
Despite tough conditions, the Year 8 Relay Team of Hunter Tipene, Harlem Hope-Jensen, and Lacey Gornall earned 2nd place — a major accomplishment at the regional level.
Looking ahead, with so much promise already shown this season, the future of Orienteering at Orewa College looks incredibly bright.
